THE SCREAM
When I began to turn this piece of Australian River Oak I was taken by the swirling grain patterns, natural crazing, and the central knot feature. It all reminded me of the background to Edvard Munch's famous painting 'The Scream'. Many wood turners avoid knotted, crazed timbers, but I've got an affinity for them - perhaps because of my own crazes
When I began to turn this piece of Australian River Oak I was taken by the swirling grain patterns, natural crazing, and the central knot feature. It all reminded me of the background to Edvard Munch's famous painting 'The Scream'. Many wood turners avoid knotted, crazed timbers, but I've got an affinity for them - perhaps because of my own crazes and knots! An elegant piece that stands 245 mm high it is finished with a high lustre that accentuates the unique patterns of the River Oak, which will never be reproduced.
